Watch the video (Length: 11:14) ORH/OAA Rural Health Training and Education Initiative The Office of Rural Health (ORH) has released the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Rural Health Training and Education Initiative (RHTI). This RFP represents a collaborative effort between the Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA) and the Office of Rural Health to fulfill VA's mission to serve rural and highly-rural Veteran populations. This initiative is intended to develop a clinical education infrastructure at non-traditional training sites that serve predominantly rural and highly rural Veterans.

Each of the six ORH strategic goals have been updated with broadly agreed upon initiatives and associated action items that provide a path forward for ORH to continue to succeed in its mission. ORH Supports Veteran Students at Western Illinois University News - EventsIOM Telehealth Workshop On August 8-9, 2010, the Institute of Medicine will hold a workshop on "The Role of Telehealth in an Evolving Health Care Environment." The workshop will give perspectives on the potential for telehealth to serve geographically isolated individuals and extend the reach of scarce resources, while also emphasizing quality and value in the delivery of health care services. Workshop Registration opens in June. Health IT Workforce Training Grant Opportunity Health care is often a top employer in a rural community. By 2018, the number of health information technology (HIT) jobs is estimated to increase by 20 percent. The Department of Labor announced the availability of $500 million in funding to support community college-level training. Applicant organizations can use this funding to develop programs focusing on HIT workforce development. Learn more about this grant opportunity. VA Offering Training for Rural Clergy WASHINGTON - Members of the clergy in rural areas can sign up for free, one-day workshops offered by the Department of Veterans Affairs to educate these community leaders about the concerns of Veterans and the services offered by VA in their communities. VA-HUD: Homelessness among Veterans Declines 12% in 2011 WASHINGTON – The Departments of Veterans Affairs and Housing and Urban Development announced that Veteran homelessness was reduced by nearly 12 percent between January 2010 and January 2011.
